Appointments

Office visits are by appointment only upon request by a referring physician. New patient consultation appointments are scheduled for 30-45 minutes and established patient appointments are scheduled for 15 minutes. If you anticipate your problem will require more time than this, or if you have multiple problems that may require a longer visit, informing the scheduling staff ahead of time will enable us to better serve your needs and decrease waiting time for yourself and other patients.

Hours of Operation

For your convenience, our main office is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Our satellite offices are open each Tuesday of the week and staffed with a provider who performs office visits as well as endoscopic procedures at either Spruce Pine Hospital or McDowell Hospital. Preparation For Your Appointment

In order to reduce your wait time, new patients are offered the opportunity to complete these forms prior to arriving for their scheduled appointment. Once downloaded as a pdf these forms can easily be printed and completed at your convenience. This provides you with time to read and understand what is being asked at your own pace and to collect any information that you might not have with you when you visit our office. Once completed these forms may be faxed to 828-258-1614 or emailed to frontdesk@ashevillegastro.com, but must be received at least one business day prior to your visit. For safety, please bring copies of the completed forms with you.

New patients should arrive 30 minutes prior to their appointment in order to complete any pre-appointment paperwork, which will assist us in staying on time. In order to enter this information into your electronic medical record, we still ask that one arrive 10 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment. We ask that established patients arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment to fill out interval history and insurance forms. Patients late for appointments may require rescheduling to another time, so as not to interfere with patients arriving on schedule.

What to Expect

Upon arrival at our facility, if you have already filled out your health history and other forms, please present them to the Front Desk staff when you check in. If you do not have these with you we will ask you to complete several forms.

In the process of your gastroenterology evaluation, a history and physical examination will be performed by one of our highly qualified providers. On occasion, one of our certified Physician Assistants or a Nurse Practitioner may be involved with your consultation or follow-up visit. Prior records, including any available office notes, as well as laboratory, x-ray, and pathology reports will be reviewed. After this has been completed, recommendations for treatment or additional testing will be reviewed with you. A full report of our findings and suggested treatment(s) will also be sent to your referring and/or primary care physician.

Upon completion of your visit with the provider you will be routed to the check-out desk and scheduling department. At this point, our highly trained staff members will provide detailed instructions regarding any laboratory, radiologic, or endoscopic services that have been ordered. Many patients who are referred to Asheville Gastroenterology Associates require some type of endoscopic procedure. This would be arranged either at The Endoscopy Center or one of the affiliated hospital sites depending on the equipment and services which may be required for your procedure.

When routine follow-up appointments are requested, this will be scheduled with your personal provider. If you have an urgent need and your provider is unavailable, you will be offered the next available appointment with any of our highly qualified providers.

Always bring your current insurance card with you to each visit.

Cancellation Policy

If you need to reschedule an office visit or procedure appointment, please notify our scheduling staff at least 72 hours in advance by calling (828) 254-0881. This allows us to meet the needs of other patients during your cancelled appointment time.

After Hours Assistance

If you are experiencing a medical emergency immediately call 911 for assistance.

One of our physicians is on-call 24 hours a day for urgent medical needs and advice. If an urgent condition or question arises that cannot wait until regular office hours, please call (828) 254-0881 and our answering service will contact the on-call physician who will return your call as soon as possible. This physician will usually have access to your office medical record and will effectively assist you in maintaining continuity of your medical care.
