Advanced Practitioners

Digestive Health Partners physicians divide their time between seeing patients in the office, performing procedures in our Endoscopy centers and seeing patients at local hospitals. Because our physician’s schedules are varied and rotate frequently, they may not always be readily available for an office appointment that works with the patient’s schedule. To ensure your healthcare concerns are addressed in a timely manner, Digestive Health Partners physicians work closely with our Physician Assistants (PAs) and Nurse Practitioners (NPs). They are sometimes referred to as Advanced Practitioners (APs). Our PAs and NPs help you to access care and follow the treatment plan designated by your physician.

A Physician Assistant is someone who has achieved a graduate degree from an accredited school, and in addition, obtained a Bachelor of Science or a Master of Science Degree. They must pass national board exams for certification and state licensure. A Nurse Practitioner is a Registered Nurse who has an advanced Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school and takes national certification exams to become an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensed by the state medical and nursing boards.

Our APs provide an additional level of care for our patients. They can see you in our office for initial care, order tests and procedures, review tests results, and prescribe medications if needed. APs also work in our hospitals with physician supervision, and they will follow a patient from admission through discharge. Patients are seen each day by an AP and work with the physician assigned to the hospital. You may also be seen in the office by our APs for follow-up care after your hospital stay.

A Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner does not replace your regular physician. Our APs work in conjunction with your physician to provide high-quality and experienced care.
