Esophageal pH Monitoring
For those who suffer from chronic heartburn or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), your doctor may order a 24 hour test to help determine the source of your symptoms and therefore determine the best treatment options.
During the procedure a miniature pH capsule is attached to the esophagus and transmits information to a pager, worn on the belt. The patient is asked to keep a journal and record each time there is heartburn, chest pain or other periods of symptoms. Once the testing period is over, the journal and the monitor are studied to help determine what treatment will work best.
